Why it matters

Know your floor, then never break it

Brokers quote you a rate per loaded mile. To know if it pays, you have to compare it to what it actually costs you to put the truck on the road, including the empty miles to get to the pickup. That is your cost per mile, and most owner-operators have never sat down and worked it out.

Once you know it, booking is simple: anything below break-even loses money, full stop. Run a load through the load profit calculator, then sign up to track your real cost per mile as your loads roll in.

Most single-truck owner-operators land somewhere around $1.50 to $2.00 per mile all-in, but yours depends entirely on your truck payment, insurance, fuel price and MPG. The point is not to match an average, it is to know your own number so you never book a load below it.

Track your real cost per mile

Rigbird learns your cost from your loads, so every load is scored against your true number.
